Recycled carbon fibre can be cheaper and way more environmentally friendly
Composite materials like carbon fibre are very important to us. In many situations they replace metals, making our structures (including planes and cars) lighter and stronger. However, we know how to recycle metals, while recycling carbon fibre is not as straightforward. Now scientists at the University of Sydney have figured out how to process carbon fibre in a way that would reduce the price of materials by 70 % and CO2 emissions by 90-95 % compared to traditional manufacturing.
